Thanks! Wow that's super simple. So then after it says it's completed successfully you have it do whatever else you want it do. IE write to database, email confirmation and post message saying thank you.

The client needs to go to http://www.paypal.com/ to apply for an account. If he/she already has an account, he can call tech support and ask them how to register for an API key.

Yes, I've done it myself (Express Checkout with PayPal Pro) on several websites. Do keep in mind that over the years they have had several different products that they call Pro, so if you're working with an older account maybe there is some issue. The accounts I have worked on were "Website Payments Pro" accounts opened within the past 2 years. Maybe you could try calling again - I have gotten different answers from different reps so maybe if you keep trying you can find one who can help solve the problem.

Yes, that's correct. It can be a little tricky the first time you integrate PayPal, but keep trying. They do offer technical support so I would give them a call and ask if they have a simple working version that you can start from. If all else fails, you could send everyone to the PayPal site for donating, but I know what you mean about not wanting people to leave the site. (Even with that option, you can set it up so that after people finish donating they get redirected back to your website, so that might be an option for you.)

Hi WebElaine, are you sure that you can implement an express checkout payment with paypal Pro features?

I've got some problems getting it working, so I wrote to paypal assistance, and they answer me that is impossible to take advance of paypal pro features with express checkout payments...

so i'm assuming I need to build our donations/recurring payments form and have the form action get/post to DoDirectPayment.php on our server correct? then in my form I'll just need to label the fields so they match up with the php field names? sorry for being such a noob, the paypal stuff confuses me, and we don't want people having to leave the site to donate or partner.

Like yourself, I was diving through all the terrible documentation that paypal "provides" and attempting to work out several different scenarios until I came across your blog.

Thank you so much for compiling all this. So much more condensed. I was struggling with the difference between express and direct payments.

Paypal needs to update their API to keep current with the latest and greatest others are offering.
